WHAT WAS THE NEED OF THE CHARITY/CAUSE?
This charity assists children who have been raped and abuse. The aim is to minimise the secondary abuse children suffer due to the unsympathetic reporting environment. They work in the WCape and Gauteng and help 13000 childre every year. They supply the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units with comfort packs to give to mainly young girls who have been raped. They are desperate for packs!

HOW DID YOU ADDRESS THIS NEED (DESCRIBE YOUR PROJECT)
On Saturday 16 June more than 300 dancers put their dancing shoes on, did their stretches, ran through some steps and then joined the Let's Go Shuffling Danceathon at Clearwater Mall. Although only a few danced the danceathon, many where there to show their style during 11 hours of non-stop dancing. They ranged from 2 years old to 70 years, from professional to "never danced before", from hip hop to the foxtrot - it was a great day of dance for children in need! Celebrities Eloise Cupido and Kyknet presenter Rianette Owitz joined in the fun. Even Roodepoort Round Table joined in (not in the dancing!) but they made a huge product donation towards the packs. Shellard Media joined the drive by donating an additional R2000. Clearwater Mall gave all the dancers a great gift and Roman's Pizza was there to keep the tummies full! Altought we did not raised enought money to buy all 13000 packs - we mobilised many to get involved and raised massive awarness of the plight of the abused children in SA. Photos of the event is available on the Rippel Blog site With the funds raised 200 children who have been abused can now receive a comfort pack.

WHY DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR PROJECT A SUCCESS?
We wanted to support a great cause by mobilising people to do something that they love doing (dancing) and use their talents (the professional dancers) to make a difference. We believe by getting people to give their time and talents is worth so much more than just making a donation. In addition to touching the lives of 200 kids, we hope that our project will also create the awarness so needed to make other children (80% of the group were under 18) aware of their rights and to report abuse. it is possible that by doing that - we have helped many more children!
