WHAT WAS THE NEED OF THE CHARITY/CAUSE?

To take 120 children on a life changing camp. We were apporached by schools that couldn't aford these camps but that needed to send children. In total 60 children had to be sponsored. We needed sponsorship for camping fees as well as sponsorship for airtime to promote the needa for sponsorships as well as the promotion of the camp. Children from less previliged schools, children from houses of protection, children from orphanges and from difficult circumstances would be taken ont his camp - giving them live skills, training in relations, parents, schools, siblings, teachers and prepare them for the future. Groupwork, games and sports was also part of the camp programme.

This charity assists children who have been raped and abuse. The aim is to minimise the secondary abuse children suffer due to the unsympathetic reporting environment. They work in the WCape and Gauteng and help 13000 childre every year. They supply the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units with comfort packs to give to mainly young girls who have been raped. They are desperate for packs!

HOW DID YOU ADDRESS THIS NEED (DESCRIBE YOUR PROJECT)
On Saturday 16 June more than 300 dancers put their dancing shoes on, did their stretches, ran through some steps and then joined the Let's Go Shuffling Danceathon at Clearwater Mall. Although only a few danced the danceathon, many where there to show their style during 11 hours of non-stop dancing. They ranged from 2 years old to 70 years, from professional to "never danced before", from hip hop to the foxtrot - it was a great day of dance for children in need! Celebrities Eloise Cupido and Kyknet presenter Rianette Owitz joined in the fun. Even Roodepoort Round Table joined in (not in the dancing!) but they made a huge product donation towards the packs. Shellard Media joined the drive by donating an additional R2000. Clearwater Mall gave all the dancers a great gift and Roman's Pizza was there to keep the tummies full! Altought we did not raised enought money to buy all 13000 packs - we mobilised many to get involved and raised massive awarness of the plight of the abused children in SA. Photos of the event is available on the Rippel Blog site With the funds raised 200 children who have been abused can now receive a comfort pack.

WHY DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR PROJECT A SUCCESS?
We wanted to support a great cause by mobilising people to do something that they love doing (dancing) and use their talents (the professional dancers) to make a difference. We believe by getting people to give their time and talents is worth so much more than just making a donation. In addition to touching the lives of 200 kids, we hope that our project will also create the awarness so needed to make other children (80% of the group were under 18) aware of their rights and to report abuse. it is possible that by doing that - we have helped many more children!

WHAT WAS THE NEED OF THE CHARITY/CAUSE?
This charity helps children who report abuse against them. They help 13000 children every year. One of the things they do is to give comfort packs to these children. They need 13 000 plus packs every year to give - and because of lack of funding cannot always give it. The packs are very helpful for the child because it helps her through a terrible time. But it also helps to establish a relationship between the child and the police office who has to get her story. If this can happen quickly the chances of the police getting the guilty party is very high.
HOW DID YOU ADDRESS THIS NEED (DESCRIBE YOUR PROJECT)
Kayleigh Victor (my 11 year old daughter) who was crowned as Little Miss World 2012 approached the contestants of the Miss Snow Queen 2012 to help collect packs for the child abuse victims. This was after she saw the story of the Sunday Rapist on TV. Each contestant was asked to collect and donate one pack. These contestants are all between 3 - 19. In the end these kids collected and donated

We hope that this can become a part of not only the Miss Snow Queen project, but of many other beauty contestants. Some of the kids have also phoned to say that they will continue to help with packs.
WHY DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR PROJECT A SUCCESS?
Because these young ladies were thought that beauty is not only on the surface - that realy beauty lies in what you do for others. We are also very excited that about the fact that not only where children in need helped, but our own daughters were educated on protecting themselves. With this project the lives of the victims and those who helped were touched.

PEDIATRIC PACKAGE
Describe how you are going to help
Since one of the biggest problem with children with life limiting illnesses is defaulting of treatment, I will help through having a wellness day with paediatrics, their siblings and primary caregivers on adherence to treatment and then and ask the kids to act out the importance of adherence through drama, poem , art and music. The charity staff will have to to health talks. After that, the part of the money will buy a package that has 1. alarmclock, 2.wrist alarm watch 3.cooler box, 4.pill bag 5.cooling jell, for each infected child to be able to take responsibility of their health and take their treatment in time, and for the safe keeping of their treatment.Thealarm clock ensures that the siblings in the family support the infected child in reminding them to take their treament when the time is up, as the alarm will be set daily. The wrist alarm watch, will help the child even when they are playing that the time for treatment is up and they go home to take their treatment. The pill bag, is for safe keeping of pills. The cooler box, helps since most families do not haverefridgerators hence they will make use of cooling jell, which when it is needs a refridgeratorthey can ask neigbhours for the jell to freeze up.The jell can last for days.Part of the money will be used for refreshments on the family wellness day , which will include a healthy meal, that will form part of the topics on the wellness day.
